Sometimes the warmest, sunniest US states house some of the darkest souls. Thus was the case for Florida born native, Mark Freifeld. Pirate Prude (yes, originally the debut EP title by the band, Helium) is the moniker for his songs. Mark began touting the name around back in 2004 when Pirate Prude played its first show opening for Xiu Xiu in Tampa. Since then, Pirate Prude has gone through a few gig lineup changes until eventually fizzing out to the two most consistent members - Mark on vox and guitars and Tom Kersey on cello. The debut Pirate Prude album, "Exile In Circuitville" was released officially on March 18, 2008. It is presently a self-release venture and will receive wider distribution within the coming weeks on itunes, rhapsody, emusic and tunecore. Circuitville is a concept record. Mark used previous rock releases "Exile on Main St" by the Rolling Stones and "Exile In Guyville" by Liz Phair to formulate his own musical journey through Circuitville. The themes of alienation, love and loss of love, longing, addiction, desperation, hope (many of the emotions that effect the human condition on a regular basis) permeate all three "Exile" long players.
